About the RSL

The Returned & Services League (RSL) was founded in 1916 by soldiers returning from the Gallipoli Campaign, driven by the need to support wounded veterans and the families of those who never made it home.

What began as a grassroots movement has grown into one of Australia’s leading veteran support organisations, dedicated to the wellbeing of current and former service personnel and their loved ones.

Today, the RSL continues its mission through vital investment in healthcare, aged care, welfare services, community programs, and sporting clubs — ensuring the legacy of service lives on.

Oakey RSL Sub Branch: Our History

Formed on April 25, 1934, by World War I sailors and soldiers, the Oakey RSL Sub Branch has a long-standing tradition of service and support. Over time, it has welcomed members from World War II, as well as those who served in Korea, Malaya, Vietnam, Cambodia, Rwanda, the Gulf, Somalia, and East Timor.

Our Contributions to the Community

For over 80 years, Oakey RSL has actively supported:

War Widows
Legacy & The Salvation Army
The Anzac Youth Club
Commemoration of Anzac Day, Remembrance Day, and Vietnam Veterans Day
Pensions and welfare services for past and present service personnel

Our Club Building

Opened on December 19, 1953, by Sir John Lavarack, Governor General of Queensland
Renovated in 1982 and majorly refurbished in 2000
Official reopening on May 27, 2000, by Mr Ray De Vere M.C.O.A.M., President of RSL Queensland

Who Can Join?

If you’ve served six months or more in the Australian Defence Force (ADF) – whether in the regular or reserve forces – or served in a theatre of conflict, you’re eligible to become a member of the Oakey RSL Sub Branch.

Complete a Membership Application Form
Submit your form to the Oakey RSL Sub Branch
Pay the annual membership fee – currently $20 (subject to change)
